Fruit Trees for Health to Fight Malnutrition | Project Greenhands

One in three of the world's malnourished children lives in India with more than 6,000 children below 5 dying everyday. To combat childhood malnutrition, Project GreenHands gifts fruit tree saplings to Mothers to plant next to their homes. A single tree provides more than one family can eat, but not enough to sell. By providing Mothers with a variety of species that harvest throughout the year the exchange of fresh fruit becomes a new currency of exchange within the village. Malnutrition is replaced by health, isolation by community, and apathy by generosity and self sufficiency.
